Call for Leadership Candidates

2018 CFDA Board of Directors

The Colorado Funeral Directors Association is seeking candidates for its upcoming Board and Officer elections.

With new initiatives on the horizon, CFDA needs and welcomes the enthusiastic participation of its members on the Board of Directors.

Eligible candidates must be employed by a CFDA Member that maintains Establishment Membership in CFDA. No more than two members of the Board of Directors shall be from the same branch/location and a maximum of two individuals may serve from the same organization under common ownership.

Elections will take place during the CFDA’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at the Town Hall Meeting in Denver. Assigned delegates of CFDA Establishment Members are eligible to vote in this election.

Serving on the Board of Directors is a chance to help drive the decisions of the association. Board service is a chance to grow personally and professionally, to develop skills, gain unique experience and make lasting connections.

There has never been a more important or exciting time to be part of the CFDA as we work to expand and enhance all of our initiatives and member benefits. Please consider how you can contribute to Colorado’s funeral service profession and submit your application to CFDA.

Vice President - 1 position

The Vice President is actively involved in all aspects of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and operational activities. The Vice President serves as chair of the Professional Development Committee. In the event of the office of President becomes vacant, the Vice President will perform all duties of that position. The candidate for Vice President should expect to serve a 3-year term: 1 year as Vice President; 1 year as President; and 1 year as Immediate Past President.

Director at Large - 3 positions

A Director at Large serves as an advocate for all members and represents the collective voice of funeral service practitioners. A Director is responsible for maintaining frequent communication with members from around the state to gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of their needs and interests. This knowledge is applied to formulate and establish policies and programs to ensure the organization’s long-term financial stability and integrity. A candidate for Director at Large should expect to serve a 2-year term.

Leadership is a opportunity to make a difference and develop your personal identity within the funeral service profession.

  • Support and achieve organizational and professional goals
  • Gain or enhance experience in building and working with teams
  • Increase knowledge of association activities and resources
  • Promote and develop leadership in others
  • Help to shape the organization’s direction and future.

The CFDA Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring that the organization fulfills its mission by doing quality work. Directors recognize that in order to foster the organization’s continued viability and growth, diversification of income sources is essential and they pledge to personally contribute needed resources and talents toward this end. As a nominee or current director to the CFDA Board, you must be willing to make every effort to fulfill these responsibilities.

Expectations and Commitment

Members of the Board of Directors are elected for two-year terms by a quorum of voting members at the annual meeting. Members may be re-elected according to the bylaws.

  • Members understand that the board meets 8-12 times per year -- monthly by teleconference and at least one full-day, in-person meeting. Members will do their best to attend each meeting, with the understanding that three consecutive unexcused absences will be considered resignation from the board.
  • Members can expect meetings to be well run and productive, with a focus on decision-making rather than reporting. Agendas will be distributed 5 business days in advance. If members wish to add items to the agenda, they must contact the Executive Director at least 3 days in advance.
  • Members will accept fiduciary responsibility for the organization and will oversee its financial health and integrity. Members can expect timely, accurate, and complete financial statements to be distributed at least bi-monthly.
  • Directors work together to identify the specific tasks needed to fulfill CFDA's Mission and Vision.  Specific tasks, action steps, will be assigned to individual board members. Deadlines on action steps are set and respected. We ask you to join us in defining and meeting our goals.
  • Members will read all communications sent by and on behalf of the organization. Members will respond promptly to all requests for action in a timely manner. This will include RSVPs for meetings, participation in activities, as well as reporting on fulfillment of assignments.
  • Members will serve as ambassadors to fellow professionals and their community to educate others and promote our work. The organization will provide materials and training to do this job effectively.

CFDA strives to be the kind of organization people trust, an organization that consistently meets the needs of those we serve. Continuity in good business practices builds that trust.

Join us in providing a high level of care to our CFDA Member constituents.
